Arch Enemy: Dead eyes see no future

09/11/04  ||  Lord K Philipson

I always enjoyed The Ammott brothers’ guitarplaying even though I was never a big fan of what they did in their respective bands, past or present (ok then, so I dug some of the Carcass stuff, don’t tell anyone). Arch Enemy provides quality metal without a doubt, that’s definitely not the problem. Having a female fronting the band is not a problem either as Angela is doing a good job impersonating a guy, and she probably looks better than any Chris Barnes out there (the kids at Blabbermouth would claim that anyways). So what might the problem be then?

Basically, Arch Enemy’s music doesn’t interest my fat ass. That’s the problem. To go deep with it, I enjoy listening to it when I’m out of stuff to listen to. Easy listening, you might say. In one ear, out the other. It’s like ordering a Big Mac, you know what you get and like it even if it’s not a gourmet-meal. Deep huh? Let’s leave the in-depth Dr. Phil analysis and move on to the disc itself. Or rather, let’s try atleast…

I have no idea why this mini-CD was even released to be honest. It doesn’t serve much of a purpose. We get some live tracks and some studio covers. Wow. Fuck me with a banana and call me Harriet. Metal bands covering other metal bands is most of the time as interesting as looking at your cock for hours and hours. The Disneyland effect of looking at my genitalia is kind of limited after having seen it for 31 years. And it’s not getting bigger either you know… But to switch to what really counts in this review (pussy) let’s (pussy) take a little (pussy) look at the stuff given to us:

The live songs all sound fine to me, much like the versions on the albums (how fucken weird, huh?) and it’d be interesting to know how much of it was recorded in the studio. If nothing, congrats guys and gal, you are soooooooo skilled. Live albums serve no fucken purpose whatsoever and when I think about it, this album includes:

1. A metal band covering other metal bands…
2. Live material…

Damn, that’s 2 things I don’t appreciate so I guess you could say this album is completely useless to me. Get their studio albums instead. Believe me, you can do without the covers, they’re not going to change yer life or put hair on yer pussy, no matter how neatly they are performed. The video clip included is fine though. Nothing spectacular, but still a fine piece of work.

I won’t even rate it, but I do send a punch in the balls to bassist Sharlee for being fucken supercool every time we meet.
